Chorus, 2004. Digital video loops, projectors, speakers, DVD players.
The earliest copyrighted film records laboratory assistant Fred Ott inadvertently sneezing while being filmed during Thomas Edison’s early
motion picture experiments.
From this starting point Chorus began an investigation of such aspects of the material body that work to disturb one’s physical and psychological boundaries, both through an enhanced awareness of the visceral aspects of the body and through the creation of a direct physical connection between the work and the viewer’s body.
In this exhibition two versions of each work were juxtaposed, varying both in obvious ways (image quality, lighting, etc), and displaying more subtle deviations in the rhythm and spacing of gestures – creating a space to explore how these changes effect the interpretation of the meanings of the work.
